“The Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center for Scholars and Writers is an international fellowship program open to people whose work will benefit directly from access to the collections at the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building—including academics, independent scholars, and creative writers (novelists, playwrights, poets). Visual artists at work on a book project are also welcome to apply. The Center appoints 15 Fellows a year for a nine-month term at the Library, from September through May. In addition to working on their own projects, the Fellows engage in an ongoing exchange of ideas within the Center and in public forums throughout the Library.”

BOOK LOVERS, FYI (jobs) by Bear Guerra

Via City Lights Books:

“WE’RE HIRING FOR TWO POSITIONS IN THE BOOKSTORE. A full-time and a part-time position.. applicants must apply through email. Here’s all the info you need (a love of books is a must).

We're looking for a full-time bookseller and a fill-in bookseller.

1. The full-time position will have a fixed schedule of approximately 32-40 hours per week. Responsibilities will include working the cash register, providing customer service, shelving, and receiving. Previous bookstore experience is greatly preferred for this position.

2. The fill-in position is on-call without a fixed schedule, usually picking up one or two shifts a week. This is great as a second gig or as a way to earn something extra around other obligations. Previous bookstore experience is preferred, but retail experience will be considered. Responsibilities will include working the cash register, providing customer service, and shelving.

While a love of books is a must, candidates should also be comfortable lifting boxes and spending the day on one’s feet. As we are open daily from 10am to 12am, only candidates with availability on weekends and evenings until midnight will be considered. If you’re interested, send a resume and cover letter to and in the subject line indicate “Full-time Bookseller,” or “Fill-in Bookseller.” While we appreciate all of your responses, we won’t be able to reply to all of them as we expect to get quite a few. Thank you!”
